Whatever happened to the Ewing boys? Well, you can find out this week, as Dallas: War of the Ewings hits our TV screens
Okay, so we’re not going to pretend that Dallas: War of the Ewings is a patch on the original series. But in a week of below average film fare on the box, we thought we’d devote a little space to this spin off from our favourite ever soap, if only if it gives us an excuse to ponder where all those much-loved faces are now...
Well, sadly, not many of them turn up in this “made for TV movie” (oh yes, this gem never went near the cinemas), although they are arguably Southfork’s three most famous residents – Bobby (Patrick Duffy), Sue-Ellen (Linda Gray) and, of course, the man himself Mr JR Ewing (Larry Hagman). The trio are now all living under one roof at the ranch, but while Bobby and Sue-Ellen are now in control of Ewing Oil, JR runs a rival company Weststar. But, as ever, the knives are being sharpened for a bit of back-stabbing once all three get wind of the news there’s oil in them there hills. Or on Ray Krebb’s (Steve Kanaly) land, to be precise.
Perhaps the plot line may not have convinced you to give up two hours of video tape or a lazy Friday afternoon to the machinations of some ageing oil barons. So there’s no Cliff Barnes, Miss Ellie, Poison Dwarf Lucy, Pam or many of the pouting lovelies who graced our screens between1978 and 1990. But surely it’s worth it just to see Sue-Ellen’s lips quiver one last time.
